Short CV

Dr. Thomas G. Maris was born in Heraklion/Crete, Greece in 1963. He received his B.S. in Physics from the University of Crete in 1985, his MSc in Medical Physics from the University of Surrey, UK in 1986, and his PhD in 1997 from the Medical School of the University of Athens. He joined the Medical Physics Department of the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1989 as Medical Physicist. In 1998 he joined the Medical Physics Department of the University Hospital of Heraklion/Crete as Medical Physicist. In 2003 he was elected assistant professor of Medical Physics in the Medical School of the University of Crete. He is author or co-author in 61 scientific papers published in peer-review journals. He has more than 950 scientific citations (h-index:18). He has participated as an invited speaker in more than 20 congresses/seminars and he has participated in more than 90 presentations in international congresses. He is a member of the executive board of the Hellenic Association of Medical Physicists (HAMP) since 2000, and the Chairman of the executive board of HAMP since June 2010. He is the greek delegate (HAMP representative) for the educational subcommittee of the European Federation of Medical Physics (EFOMP). He is a member of the European Society of Radiology (ESR).

Research Interests

The main research interests of Thomas G. Maris are within the areas of:

• Design and application of novel Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) sequences
• Quantitative MRI (qMRI) applications including quantification of iron status in thalassemic patients, quantification of osteoporosis, applications of MRI diffusion / perfusion dynamic imaging
• Medical imaging post-processing focused on research Radiology Information Systems / Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (RIS/PACS)
• Development and applications of MR polymer gel dosimetry techniques for radiotherapy environments.
